Israel in a Nutshell
Israel is a small yet diverse modern Middle Eastern country with a long coastline on the eastern Mediterranean Sea and a small window on the Red Sea at the Gulf of Eilat (Aqaba). While the current State of Israel is a relatively new country founded in 1948, the Land of Israel has a long and often very complex history stretching back thousands of years to the very beginnings of human civilization. Israel is a Jewish state and as such, public Holidays follow the Jewish calendar.

Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv is the most vibrant city in the country, located alongside the Mediterranean coastline. It's often called "the White City" since it is a site of Bauhaus architecture. It is also home to most foreign embassies. Tel Aviv is the second largest city in Israel (after Jerusalem), and the largest metropolitan area. This is also a major tourist spot! Make sure you hit up the beach, take a shopping tour around Dizengoff, walk around the old city center of Yaffa, bargain at the "shuk" (market) and eat and drink in one of the many resturants, coffe shops and bars.
